CASE STUDY:
Issue:
A major trucking company paid vendors to clean tractors and trailers daily at appx. $5 per unit. The ramp held appx. 250 units at any given time.
The work sheets turned in by the vendor billed for cleaning an average of 140 units per day.
Investigation:
Our week long investigation revealed they were only cleaning around 30 units per day and merely placing “date cleaned” stickers on the remaining 100 plus units.
After working two or three hours, the vendor employees would hide or sleep behind buildings most of the day.
It was estimated that the fraud incurred equated to roughly $130,000 per year.
